I haven't been using fluoride toothpaste for few years now and since the last two years I avoid plastic bottled water as it contains fluoride and chlorine. Tap water contains chlorine as well, so I use my copper pot to clean the water (read this article). Unfortunately, since the last two weeks I observe more and more chlorine in the tap water, which makes me really concern as I know how unhealthy it is. Even my copper pot can't clean it.

"This is something I’ve been wanting to write for some time, but I have to admit, I’ve really had to pluck up my courage to do so! Talking out against the use of fluoride is akin to proclaiming you worship the devil! It is a highly controversial topic usual met with an indignant argument proclaiming that the “science is out”!
It is an interesting response given that the science is far from out. In fact, no health agency in any fluoridated country is monitoring fluoride exposure or side effects and there has never been a single randomised controlled trial to demonstrate fluoridation’s effectiveness or safety. Crazy, right?
All I know is that when you look at the associated risks of ingesting these two chemicals versus the benefits it makes sense to remove them prior to consumption.
I’ve done my research and I’m perfectly comfortable in my decision to restrict my children’s consumption of fluoride (despite my dentist’s protests). My children (now 9 and 6) have the most beautiful teeth which I attribute to good dental hygiene practices and a healthy diet.
At the end of the day we all need to better educate ourselves so everyone can decide for themselves whether of not to ingest these chemicals. Hopefully this document will be a good starting point…
The addition of chlorine to our drinking water began in the late 1800s to eliminate waterborne disease like typhoid, dysentery and cholera. It is also very effective at killing harmful bacteria such as Ecoli and Giardia that have the potential to cause serious illness. Essentially a disinfectant, much like bleach, it is not so much of a stretch to see that chlorine must also have an effect on our bodies.
These long term effects of drinking chlorinated water have only recently come to be recognised. According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality, “Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.” This is because research has shown that long‐term exposure to chlorine leads to the production of free radicalswithin the body. Free radicals are carcinogenic, and cause tremendous damage to our cells.
Other studies have linked chlorinated water to asthma, bronchitis, kidney and intestinal tumours, skin irritations, atherosclerosis (which can lead to heart attack and stroke), circulatory disease, and oesophageal, larynx, rectum and breast cancer.
On top of these scary statistics, chlorinated water also poses many cosmetic problems. It makes our water smell and taste funny and when we swim, shower or bathe in it, it dries out our skin and makes our hair dull resulting in a less youthful appearance.
Chlorine doesn’t just affect our bodies when we drink it. Up to 2/3s of our harmful exposure to chlorine is due to inhalation of steam and skin absorption while showering. A warm shower opens up the pores of the skin and allows for accelerated absorption of chlorine and other chemicals in water.
Chlorine vaporises much faster and at a lower temperature than water. Therefore inhaling steam while showering in chlorinated water results in the chlorine gas (chloroform) proceeding directly into our blood stream which is a much more harmful means of exposure. “Showering is suspected as the primary cause of elevated levels of chloroform in nearly every home because of chlorine in the water.” Dr Lance Wallace, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. (By the way, did you know that chloroform was used as a chemical weapon in World War II…)
Unfortunately, because it is cheap and effective at killing those nasty bacteria that can make us really sick, chlorine won’t be going any where fast. Thankfully there are now safer, more natural alternatives for pool maintenance, and removing chlorine from drinking and shower water at the point of use (ie: your home) is very easy and simple.

Unlike chlorine, fluoride is not added to water to treat it and make it safer for consumption. Some people claim that adding fluoride to water is no different to adding iodine to salt or vitamin D to milk, however, what these people fail to acknowledge is that unlike iodine and vitamin D, fluoride is NOT an essential nutrient. Not a single biological process has been shown to require fluoride.
Our drinking water has simply become a vehicle to deliver fluoride to the mass population with the intent to treat a non-waterborne disease (tooth decay), and as such becomes classified as a medicine by definition. Herein lies the two biggest problems:
Many people who work within the dental industry claim that fluoridation of the water supply is one of the most amazing medical marvels of the the modern era, but if this were true, why do other Western countries avoid the practice?
Do they suffer more incidences of tooth decay as a result?
According to statistics from the World Health Organisation, levels of tooth decay have decrease across the board, regardless of whether a country fluoridates the water supply or not (see chart below).
The truth is that whilst there is a correlation between fluoride and a reduction in tooth decay, recent studies have shown that topical use is the most effective with limited benefits actually yielded from ingestion.
There is also a correlation between low-income areas and tooth decay suggesting that education and access to dental services may provide more benefit than fluoridation of the water supply without the associated risks.
In any case, I suggest you do more of your own research to enable you to make your own informed choice and either continue to drink your fluoridated water and accept the risks associated, or get yourself a quality filter capable of fluoride removal such as these ones.
I know I choose to drink my H2O without the serve of neurotoxin on the side…"
